Rockville has more Greek restaurants than it does parking spaces, and that is saying something. You will find spots like Parthenon, where the staff fillets your fish with theatrical precision, and Mediterranean House of Kabob, where the gyro platter is just honest and clean.

The range runs from brunch-only elegant lounges with memorable donuts to casual cafés whose potatoes score higher than your last performance review. Cava Mezze's original location still packs a happy-hour bar, and Ela Mesa's crispy bass proves the suburbs can do better than your average diner.

One place brings you an unsolicited lamb shank sample; another offers a pup menu for your dog. The only question is whether you can handle that much olive oil in one afternoon.

Here is the list.

Original Cava location ever
Packed happy hour bar
Tasty tapas and drinks
Friendly, unhurried service
Meat packed with flavor

Cava Mezze Rockville is the original, and it shows in the best way. The happy hour bar is packed, which should tell you something. I tried the tapas and the drinks. The meat is packed with flavor; the service is friendly and unhurried. I was not rushed out the door. It is loud, yes. But the food holds up. If you want the historical marker version of Cava, this is it. Bring a friend and share plates. Your wallet will thank you. The bar crowd is lively, but the staff handles it with calm. I left with no complaints and a full stomach.

Worth finding, smells amazing

Talia's Cuzina is a little harder to find, but the smell guides you. The lamb is a must-eat. I am not being dramatic. It is that good. The chicken wrap also works well for lunch. The pork tacos were recommended to me, and I see why. Excellent food and service across the board. The place smells amazing as you walk in. That is a good sign. I went in expecting a standard Greek spot and left thinking about the lamb for days. Worth the effort to locate. No complaints about pacing or portions.

Service so good it’s alarming.
Owner-grade staff intuition on display.
Fish filleted with theatrical precision.
Lamb shank sample, unsolicited.
Parking is stupidly easy at lunch.

Parthenon Restaurant & The Chevy Chase Lounge has service so good it is alarming. The staff reads your mind before you ask. The fish was filleted with theatrical precision, like a performance. They even brought an unsolicited lamb shank sample. I did not ask. It just appeared. That is confidence. Parking is stupidly easy at lunch, which is a miracle in Rockville. The food is solid, but the service is the main event. You will feel like a regular on your first visit. I almost felt guilty about the level of attention. Almost. The fish was fresh and cooked properly. Good place to be treated well.

Palmetto Bay Cuisine

Highlights
Turkey and brie sandwich
Fresh, flavorful ingredients
Tasty chicken wrap
Crab soup with flavor
Friendly, accommodating service

Palmetto Bay Cuisine is a bit of a surprise. The turkey and brie sandwich is fresh and flavorful. I also tried the chicken wrap, which was tasty. The crab soup has actual flavor, not just cream. The service is friendly and accommodating. They did not mind my questions. The ingredients clearly come from somewhere decent. It is not the most exciting Greek menu, but it is honest food. I went in with low expectations and left satisfied. The portions are reasonable for the price. If you want a quiet lunch without fuss, this works. It is not a destination, but it is dependable.

Julii is creative, and the plates look like art. The staff is attentive, patient, and friendly, even during a busy rush. My food came out quickly. The desserts and espresso are memorable; I am still thinking about the dessert. There is an amusing restroom sign detail that made me laugh. It is the small things. The menu is not strictly Greek, but the influences are there. The plating is careful without being pretentious. I appreciated the speed during a crowded dinner. No one hovered. The service was just right. This is a place for a nicer meal, but not stiff. I would return for the espresso alone, but the food earns its keep.

Incredible chicken shawarma flavor

Oh Mama Grill has the best burgers anywhere in Rockville. That is a bold claim, and I stand by it. The portions are generous and arrive hot and fresh. The dining room feels family-like and welcoming. But the real star is the chicken shawarma. The flavor is incredible. It is clearly made with real care. You can taste the marinade and the attention. The burgers are a bonus. I went for the burger, stayed for the shawarma. The staff treats you like a guest, not a customer. It is casual, but the food is serious. No pretension. Just good cooking. I left full and a little annoyed I had to drive home.

Mykonos Grill has the best roasted potatoes anywhere. Period. You get generous free olive oil with bread, which is a classy touch. The bar recommendations from Julio were strong. He knows what he is doing. The interior is distinctively Greek-themed, not tacky. The mushrooms are bold and marinated; they hit hard. The menu has standards, but the execution is above average. The potatoes alone are worth the visit. Crisp outside, soft inside, and seasoned properly. Service was attentive without hovering. I asked Julio for a drink suggestion, and he nailed it. This is a solid, comfortable spot for Greek food. I will be back for those potatoes.

The pita arrives warm, which is a small thing that matters. Portions are generous and vegetarian-friendly. The atmosphere is inviting and cozy, not crowded chaos. I felt comfortable taking my time. The moussaka is layered properly, not a soggy mess. The bass was fresh. The staff did not rush me. This is a relaxed place for a proper meal. It is easy to linger. Melina only serves weekend brunch. That is a restriction, but it works. The setting is elegant, and there is garage parking, which is odd but convenient. The food is delicious, fresh, and fast. The staff is friendly and attentive. The donut dessert is memorable; I am not a dessert person, but that donut was worth it. The menu is creative without being fussy. I went on a Sunday and had no trouble getting a seat. The service was quick even as the room filled. The espresso was solid. If you need a weekend brunch, this is a strong option. Just plan around the hours. It is a tight window, but they use it well.

Better than expected

The Big Greek Cafe has a moussaka worth the trip. Let me be clear that I did not expect this from a cafe. The potatoes are a 12 out of 10. That is not a typo. The service is friendly and upbeat. It is convenient for lunch, and I was in and out in under an hour. The food was better than expected. The moussaka was warm, layered, and not greasy. The potatoes were roasted with care. This is a fast-casual spot that punches above its weight. I would not bring a date here, but for a solo lunch or a work meeting, it is ideal. The staff smiled. That helped. No complaints.

Clean dining area

Mediterranean House of Kabob has a gyro platter worth the price. The flavor is excellent, and the pita is good. The dining area is clean, which is more than I can say for some spots in Rockville. The gyro meat is seasoned well, not dry. The platter is filling. I did not need dinner afterward. The service is straightforward, no fuss. It is not fancy, but it is honest. If you want a solid gyro without the theatrics, this is the place. The price is fair for what you get. I would return for the ease and the cleanliness. Sometimes simple is best.

Friendly service, inviting atmosphere

Ayse Meze Lounge is a friendly spot with a dog-friendly patio and a pup menu. I did not bring a dog, but I respect the option. The falafel and spanakopita are fresh. The menu is diverse, including pizza, which is odd for a Greek place but shows range. The open kitchen shows confidence; they are not hiding anything. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is inviting. I tried the falafel, and it was crisp. The spanakopita had proper flakiness. The pizza looked fine, but I stayed with the Greek items. The patio is a nice touch for warmer days. It is a relaxed, unpretentious spot. No complaints about the wait or the service.
