I’ve eaten a lot of burgers in Rockville, and I’ve got the belt buckle to prove it. From the towering triple at Josh’s Smack Shack to the crab-crowned Trap Burger at The Crab Trap, this town has range.

One thing’s for sure: you can get a $30 lobster roll at Clyde’s or a rice crispy treat that outshines your grandmother’s, but the beef is where the real stories live. Trust me, I waited thirty minutes for one of these patties and didn’t complain once.

Here’s where to get your fix, ranked.

Tender, flavorful, with no mystery chunks. Just honest, serious meat. The service matched the kitchen's ambition, friendly and efficient in a small, humble space. Fries arrived as a delicious bonus, though the main event dominated my thoughts. I left content, the kind of satisfied that makes you forgive a longer wait. Rockville, take notes.

At Josh's Smack Shack in Twinbrook, I found the best burger I've had in Rockville. Period. The owner chats with customers, a genuine touch that elevates the experience. The chicken wrap was tasty; the soup, rich. Service? Friendly, accommodating, all smiles. It felt personal. The burger isn't the star here, but the kitchen's talent is obvious. El Mercat Bar de Tapas delivers the splurge. Happy hour delivers big, the staff treats you right. The steak arrives warm, usually, a detail that matters. The burger, when I tried it, was a fine specimen amid the small plates. The tapas are worth every penny. It's a lively, buzzy room that feels alive. Not the cheapest night out, but the quality shows. I'll be back for the happy hour, and I'll order that steak again. No complaints.

Better than food court feel, absolutely. The burger? I tried it; it's competent. But the Asian flavors are the draw. The room feels fresh and modern. It's a fun stop, a reliable pick. I left thinking about the bulgogi, not the bun. That says something.
